Walking DVDs - top picks

Walking DVDs are a great way to squeeze in some exercise in the comfort of your own home. Maybe the weather is too poor to go outside or you just enjoy exercising in the comfort of your own home. You can find a large variety in your local library, on the internet or in any bookstore.

Here are my recommendations based on the most popular fitness instructors and reviews by those who have actually done the workouts.

Leslie Sansone - Walk Away the Pounds DVD Series

I absolutely love the many products by Leslie Sansone. She is warm, upbeat and down to earth.

Leslie’s walking workouts can be used by beginners or advanced walkers. By incorporating weights into the routine, you can increase the intensity of the workout.

These recommendations will continue to challenge you as your fitness level improves. They are motivational, offer a good variety to keep you interested and are fun!

This one features a 1-mile walk for 20 minutes or a 2-mile walk for 31 minutes. It also incorporates other exercises to build muscles in your legs and you can use hand weights as well.

This DVD features the 1-mile “Get up and Get Started”, 2-mile “High Calorie Burn” and 3-mile “Super Fat Burning” walking routines. It’s a great value because you get 3 workouts on one DVD. It also includes weighted balls to intensify your cardio routine and to build muscle.

This DVD has cardio, strength training and flexibility work built in for a full body workout.

There are five different walks and five different strength building segments so you can mix and match based on how you feel that day.

This DVD is a bit more challenging. It features a 3-mile “Advanced Walk” or a 4-mile “Super Challenge”. It also comes with a Stretchie band for a total body workout.
