Fitness Walking Helped Me Lose The Baby Weight

That's a picture of me and my precious ten-week old son. He was the reason for my 45 pound weight gain (well, him and the cookies and candy I ate while pregnant!).


I started fitness walking with my son because I realized it calmed him down when he was fussy and lulled him to sleep. I was soon walking at least an hour a day and made it a family affair, bringing my dogs along with me.

To be honest, I never paid attention to how much weight I was losing. I just ate a sensible diet and walked every day. The walking was easy. I loved it! It was a time to collect my thoughts and think about whatever was on my mind. It was peaceful and relaxing. Walking made me feel better physically and emotionally. I felt more calm and centered after my walks.

After 14 weeks of fitness walking I realized I'd lost all the baby weight! In fact, I'd lost even more than the baby weight and weighed less than my pre-pregnancy weight. Even my dogs lost weight! I was thrilled that the pounds had melted off doing something I loved.

I still continue to walk with my son and dogs. Fitness walking has become my method of weight loss, relaxation and renewal of spirit!

That sounds great. If you have got a garden or small lawn, it would be a great place to walk around for some time. Or even you can try the public parks, which would be a small outing and refreshment for the family.

Hi, nice to read your story. I also love walking, especially in the mornings. But I am not losing weight. What was your diet?

Hi there,

To be honest, I wasn't watching my diet during this time. However, I rarely eat fast food and I try to avoid high-fat and fried foods. So I stick to plenty of whole grains, lean meat and veggies/fruit.

I can tell you that I walked A LOT! At least an hour every day and I walked fast enough that my heart was really pumping.

And that is the way to lose weight - at least an hour of exercise almost every day. And the exercise needs to be intense enough that you are breathing heavy. Of course, stick to a lean, healthy diet as well.
