Diabetic Walking Shoes for a First Time Walker
I have type 2 diabetes and have had for several years. I am 4' 11" and over 100 pounds over weight. Mr. Doctors have told me I must get the weight off now!
My two questions are:
1. Which walking shoes would be best for me as a beginning walker?
2. Which size do I use 5 5.5?
The Fitness Walking Guide Says...Congratulations on beginning your fitness walking journey! First, check with your doctor to make sure you are fit and able to begin a fitness walking routine.
The best shoes for a beginner walker are the ones that fit you best and give you no pain. In other words, there isn't a specific brand that is best, just use a pair that you enjoy walking in. I'd start with the shoes you have and see how your feet feel after walking in them for a few weeks. If you have any foot pain at all, you'll need to find new shoes.
To find your correct size, I recommend visiting a an athletic shoe store. They will size your feet and should have the smaller sizes in stock. Some shoes run small and others run large so you could be a size 5 in one brand a 5 1/2 in another. If you can't find a store, be sure to order shoes online from a store that will allow you to wear them and return them if they aren't a good fit.
There are shoes made especially for diabetics and that may be something you'll want to explore. Here is a great
websitethat offers some good walking shoes for diabetics.
Best of luck to you and happy walking!
