Brisk walking has helped me lose 40+ pounds in just 1/2 year
(Long Beach, CA)
Today marks Exactly 6 months since I started #BriskWalking. I went through a REALLY Long period of Depression (on & off 10 years)and during that time I really let myself go... Eventually I put myself in Therapy for two years and that Really helped. When I was finally Ready to start living life again & stop being lazy and a Hermit, I started taking care of my health. It was Tuesday 08/26/2014. I decided I would start brisk walking -(I use to when I was in my 20s.)- At first I couldn't even walk a whole block without having to stop and catch my breath. Because of that I read a lot of info online and realized to make a change I would have to gradually build up my endurance. So I set a goal of brisk walking at Least 5x a week.
The first 30 days 09/2014, I would walk 1 to 1.5 miles. The next 60 days 10/2014, I worked up to 2-2.5 miles. The next 90 days 11/2014 I did 2.5-3.5 miles (This is the point where I started to Really enjoy my brisk walks). In 12/2014 I was Finally able to meet my nightly goal of 4 miles every night.
I started at 282 pounds. I'm now 235-240pds (depending on what day it is lol). All of my clothes are now too big! Which I love. I realize this is Now a Life Habit for me. I feel much better mentally and physically. I do my walks Every night after work. It relaxes me and I Always listen to music when brisk walking. It's like my form of meditation.
My suggestion to anyone starting or thinking about starting is to #JustDoIt and be consistent. I promise after awhile it becomes a habit you LOVE! & make certain to set goals for Yourself. It's a wonderful feeling to be in competition with Myself! I keep getting better & better. My new goal is to be able to do the 4 miles in less than an hour. Right now I'm able to do 4 miles in about 1 hr and 15min. I use the Nike Running app (it's free) & it is Very encouraging and can even send reminders to walk. Also invest in some Good walking/running shoes as well as workout gear. Trust me on days you don't feel like walking clothes & shoes alone can be motivation to get you out of the house & walking. I hope my journey can encourage someone else.
Sincerely, (No Longer a Hermit)
