Welcome to the The Fitness Walking Chronicles! Thank you for your interest in this newsletter and The-Fitness-Walking-Guide.com.

I hope that April finds you well!

Hopefully, the weather is warming up in your neighborhood and you’re able to get outside for a walk. If the weather is still too unpleasant, consider walking indoors.

Mall Walking and Treadmill Walking are great options for indoor walking. Or, pick up a walking workout DVD from your local library or bookstore and walk right in front of your own Television.

In this edition, you’ll find helpful tips to:

  • Eat The Best Foods Before Walking.
  • Determine Your Neighborhood's Walk Score.
  • Eat Foods That Burn Fat.

Best Foods To Eat Before Walking

Experts agree that it's important to have a light snack about one hour before exercising. It will help stabilize your blood sugar, which prevents headaches, dizziness and nausea. It also gives you energy so you'll feel revitalized and strong while walking.

An hour before walking, have a snack that is high in carbohydrates because they are the body’s main source of energy. You can also combine a small amount of protein in your pre-walking snack. And don’t forget to drink water!

Here are some ideas of snacks to eat before walking:

  • Oatmeal
  • Cottage cheese and fruit
  • Sports drink or fruit juice

For more great snack ideas, here's a list of my recommendations for food before exercise.

How Walkable Is Your Neighborhood?

Here's a fun site I came across recently.

Walk Score will help you determine how walkable your neighborhood is. Just plug in your address and you'll get a list of all of the places near your home that you can walk to. This is a great way to get more walking in when running errands. Instead of driving to the locations near you, you can walk to them. Love it!

Healthy Eating Tip!

To burn more fat, look for foods that are high in fiber and protein. Some examples are eggs, whole grains, beans and berries. For more information, visit the Flat Stomach Exercises site. This page gives some great information on the fat burning ability of certain foods.
